It’s almost time to kick off the summer and memorialize those who fought for our country. Queens is home to some of the largest and oldest Memorial Day ceremonies in the city.
Enjoy one of the many parades across the borough and various events to commemorate the day.
Sunday, May 28
College Point Citizens for Memorial Day (2 p.m., intersection of 28th Avenue & College Point Boulevard)
The College Point Citizens Memorial Day Parade will feature marching bands, aerialist from local business Aerial haven, Taekwondo skills from College Point Champions Martial Arts and various other community organizations providing entertainment.
Military personnel from the Army, Navy and Marines will be marching the route.

Monday, May 29
Woodhaven vets mark Memorial Day (11 a.m. 89-02 91 St.)
Woodhaven American Legion Post 118 will hold a ceremony honoring fallen service members at its annual Memorial Day ceremony. All are invited to attend. There will be a presentation of the colors by the Franklin K. Lane High School Junior ROTC Cadet Honor Guard.

Memorial Day Ceremony in Woodside (10 a.m., Boulevard Gardens Main Archway, 31st Avenue and 54th Street)
Sponsored by the American Legion Post 1836, this is the largest, longest-running Memorial Day Ceremony in Queens and in New York City. The ceremony dates back to the late 1950s. This year will mark the ceremony’s 65th ceremony at Boulevard Gardens.
This year, state Sen. Gianaris is scheduled to receive the distinguished American Legion Blue Image Award. The FDNY Ceremonial Unit will also be part of this year’s ceremony.

Allied Veterans Memorial Committee of Ridgewood and Glendale March (11 a.m. Glendale Veterans Triangle, corner of Myrtle and Cooper Avenues)
Join the Allied Veterans Memorial Committee of Ridgewood and Glendale for a memorial service and remarks at the start and finish of the march which will follow west along Myrtle Avenue to the Ridgewood Veterans Triangle.

The Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade (2 p.m, Jayson Avenue and Northern Boulevard)
Since 1927, local volunteers put together one of the largest Memorial Day parades in the county. The theme has yet to be announced, but be sure to check in on their website for more details.

Astoria Memorial Day Street Fair (10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Broadway, between Crescent St. and 42nd St.)
The Memorial Day street fair along Broadway, between Crescent and 42nd Streets, is sponsored by the Broadway Astoria Merchants and Professionals Association and features over 350 vendors.
Memorial Day Skate (2 p.m. to 7 p.m., United Skates at The Shops at Atlas Park)
Wear red, white and blue and get in at half price before 5 p.m. Regular admission $13; Skate Rental $6.
