East Flushing scooter rider killed after losing control, striking his head a block from home: NYPD

An east Flushing man was killed on Tuesday night when he wiped out and was thrown off his electric scooter just a block from his home on Burling Street.

Police from the 109th Precinct in Flushing responded to the scene where they found 61-year-old Zhen Fu Zheng lying on the roadway near his scooter with severe head trauma. EMS rushed him to New York-Presbyterian Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that the victim was riding his electric scooter at around 11:18 p.m. on June 27, traveling in an unknown direction on Jasmine Avenue west of Parsons Boulevard, when he lost control and was thrown to the pavement striking his head.

There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad.
