PHOTOS: Community gathers in Flushing for annual street fair

The Downtown Flushing Transit Hub Business Improvement District (BID) held its 2023 Street Fair on Prince Street and 40th Road on Saturday, Sept. 16, with dozens of vendors selling toys and clothes.

Other vendors sold a wide variety of food options including barbecue, fried chicken, bubble tea, tofu, Chinese baked goods, cotton candy cake, among other options. A DJ provided the entertainment while a balloon artist captivated the kids, many of whom were walking around with foam dragons from Flushing Bank.

“The annual Street Festival hosted by the Flushing BID is a great showcase for our neighborhood, introducing both local residents and visitors from other parts of New York City to our great restaurants and businesses, cultural organizations, and community groups,” Councilwoman Sandra Ung said. ‘I know the BID puts a lot of hard work into organizing this event, and year after year it continues to get bigger and better.”

The nonprofit Flushing BID was formed in 2003 by property owners, businesses, residents and community leaders with a stake in the downtown Flushing community. It was the 45th BID to be created by New York City around the five boroughs.

Twenty people indicted in Queens-based $4.6M vehicle theft ring after three-year probe: DA

Twenty individuals were indicted and variously charged in a wide-ranging scheme to steal cars in Queens, throughout New York City and its suburbs, following a three-year investigation by the Queens District Attorney’s Office, the NYPD, and the New York State Police dubbed “Operation Hellcat,” into the criminal enterprise based in Queens.

Some of the vehicles were stolen from owners’ driveways, some with the keys or key fobs inside. The stolen vehicles were often sold through advertisements on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. The defendants are charged in nine separate indictments for a total of 373 counts, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced on Thursday.
