This weekend in Queens is filled with celebrations and entertainment for all to attend. With the Festival of Lights coming this weekend, as well as stage and screen productions, this weekend is set with amusement. Here are some events to add to your weekend plans.

 

Friday, Nov. 3

 

Indie Dance Party: “I Bet You Look Good”

 

Join the indie music enthusiasts for a thrilling dance party at TV Eye with DJ Nick Marc, who will be spinning indie classics from a huge range of artists, including Arctic Monkeys, David Bowie, The 1975, Primal Scream, The Prodigy, The Strokes, Interpol, Passion Pit and many more, assuring entertainment for all indie music enthusiasts. Making God Laugh

 

The Douglaston Community Theatre is calling all to the Zion Church Parish Hall for its live comedy-drama production of Sean Grennan’s “Making God Laugh.” The play is directed by Joe Marshall and features actors Matt Benineasa, James Brautigam, Rosemary Kurtz, Tara Mangione and Christopher Tyrkko to bring the playbook’s family comedy to life. The show will run on Nov. 3, 4 and 10 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 11, 18 and 19 at 2 p.m. Reservations are recommended. The 2023 Full Figured Industry Awards

 

Prepare to walk the red carpet alongside your industry peers at the 2023 Full Figured Industry Awards for an event that honors distinction in the full-figured industry. Hosted by Madeline Jones and Reggie May, this evening brings together artists like models, designers and more, with performances by Elle Baez and DJ PHD. Diwali Celebration

Made possible by New York City Comptroller Brad Lander and Council Member Shekar Krishnan, this Diwali Celebration invites all to come and celebrate the Festival of Lights with a resource fair, dance performances, a lamp lighting ceremony, music and refreshments to enjoy. ‘KEJARLAH JANJI’ Screening and Talk

 

Komisi Pemilihan Umum Indonesia is bringing to the screen, Garin Nugroho’s “KEJARLAH JANJI,” a film revolving around the story of an independent woman and sole caretaker of three children, who are dealing with their hatred of the rival of their father, Janji Usaha, following their father’s death after his loss of the village head election. There will be a discussion following the film as well. (Regal UA Kaufman Astoria, 35-30 38th St., Astoria. 2:30 to 6 p.m. Admission: Free)

Twenty people indicted in Queens-based $4.6M vehicle theft ring after three-year probe: DA

Twenty individuals were indicted and variously charged in a wide-ranging scheme to steal cars in Queens, throughout New York City and its suburbs, following a three-year investigation by the Queens District Attorney’s Office, the NYPD, and the New York State Police dubbed “Operation Hellcat,” into the criminal enterprise based in Queens.

Some of the vehicles were stolen from owners’ driveways, some with the keys or key fobs inside. The stolen vehicles were often sold through advertisements on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. The defendants are charged in nine separate indictments for a total of 373 counts, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced on Thursday.

Masked gunman robs Total Wireless store in Flushing, steals $6K: NYPD

Police from the 109th Precinct in Flushing are looking for a masked gunman who pulled off an armed robbery at a cell phone store on the night of Monday, May 5.

The suspect entered the Total Wireless shop located in the old Hua Cheng Restaurant at 41-19 Kissena Blvd., across the street from the Queens Public Library branch, just before 7 p.m. He approached the counter, pulled out a firearm, and threatened the 27-year-old woman who was working the night shift, police said Wednesday.
