Flushing Cafe/Dessert Store Temporarily Closed by Health Dept.

A Flushing cafe specializing in dessert has been closed temporarily by the Health Department.

Caffeine Fix, located at 149-40 41st Ave and known for its waffles, ice cream, and specialty beverages—was closed on Dec. 13, according to the Health Dept.

The eatery was cited for numerous violations, including evidence of mice and roaches.

The venue racked up 56 violation points.

The health inspector wrote it up for 11 violations. The first eight were listed as critical.

1) Food Protection Certificate not held by supervisor of food operations.

2) Evidence of mice or live mice present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas.

3) Live roaches present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas.

4) Hand washing facility not provided in or near food preparation area and toilet room. Hot and cold running water at adequate pressure to enable cleanliness of employees not provided at facility. Soap and an acceptable hand-drying device not provided.

5) Personal cleanliness inadequate. Outer garment soiled with possible contaminant. Effective hair restraint not worn in an area where food is prepared.

6) Food contact surface not properly washed, rinsed and sanitized after each use and following any activity when contamination may have occurred.

7) Sanitized equipment or utensil, including in-use food dispensing utensil, improperly used or stored.

8) Wiping cloths soiled or not stored in sanitizing solution.

9) Facility not vermin proof. Harborage or conditions conducive to attracting vermin to the premises and/or allowing vermin to exist.

10) Plumbing not properly installed or maintained; anti-siphonage or backflow prevention device not provided where required; equipment or floor not properly drained; sewage disposal system in disrepair or not functioning properly.

11) Accurate thermometer not provided in refrigerated or hot holding equipment.

Masked gunman robs Total Wireless store in Flushing, steals $6K: NYPD

Police from the 109th Precinct in Flushing are looking for a masked gunman who pulled off an armed robbery at a cell phone store on the night of Monday, May 5.

The suspect entered the Total Wireless shop located in the old Hua Cheng Restaurant at 41-19 Kissena Blvd., across the street from the Queens Public Library branch, just before 7 p.m. He approached the counter, pulled out a firearm, and threatened the 27-year-old woman who was working the night shift, police said Wednesday.
