Police are searching for a man who has been snatching wallets from women in Flushing in March and April.

Police say the first of four thefts took place at 40-06 Main Street at around 11:30 a.m. on March 15. The man allegedly crept up behind a 51-year-old woman and plucked her wallet out of her purse.

The suspect then took off with the wallet before the victim realized it was gone. The man later used the woman’s credit card at an MTA vending machine, police said.

Then on March 22 at 12:50 p.m., the man sat behind a 22-year-old woman who was eating inside New World Mall at 136-20 Roosevelt Ave. The man reached inside the woman’s purse, which was hanging on her chair, and grabbed her wallet. He made off with the wallet, which contained $800 cash and credit cards, according to police. He then used the victim’s credit card to buy several items including an MTA card.

The final victim, a 30-year-old woman, placed her bag on a chair next to her while she was eating at Xi’an Famous Foods on April 12 at 6 p.m. The man allegedly pulled her wallet out of her purse and ran away before she realized something was wrong. He bought several items with the victim’s credit card, including an MTA card.

The suspect is described as black and between 50 and 60 years old.

Anyone with information in regards to these incidents is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
