A fire broke out in a two-story house in Flushing early Monday morning leaving two people in critical condition, according to the FDNY.

More than 100 firefighters responded to the blaze that broke out at 147-09 41st Ave. around 2 a.m. Monday. The flames spread rapidly throughout the house.

The house was engulfed in flames and it took firefighters until about 4 a.m. to bring the fire under control.

Two people—believed to be squatters—were badly injured and taken to the Cornell Hospital burn unit. Ten firefighters suffered minor injuries, according to the FDNY.

The FDNY said it was unclear what was the cause of the fire and it is under investigation. The house had not been occupied–except by squatters–for some time.
