Metered Parking Rates Go Up in Queens Today, Flushing Hit Hard

Nov. 1, 2018 By Christian Murray

The cost to park in a metered spot went up in Queens today.

The new rates to park in the commercial districts of Astoria, Long Island City, Sunnyside, Woodside, Jackson Heights, Forest Hills and Ridgewood—deemed Zone 2—have gone up from $1 per hour to $1.50.

In downtown Flushing the cost has been hiked from $1 per hour to $2 per hour.

Outside the bustling commercial districts in Queens, the cost will go up from $1 per hour to $1.25.

The DOT announced the roll out in August, with rates going up in Brooklyn in September and Manhattan in October.

The DOT said that the hikes are the first time since 2013 that the rates have gone up.

The hardest hit areas are in lower Manhattan and midtown where passenger rates increased from $3.50 per hour to $4.50.
