Several restaurants in the Flushing area have attained the coveted Bib Gourmand status, an award given out by Michelin every year for restaurants in the city offering high quality food at affordable costs.

The eastern Queens neighborhood boasts seven Bib Gourmand restaurants this year, including three newcomers to the list.

Alley 41, a new restaurant just off Main Street on 41st Avenue, received the recognition for its quality Sichuan meals and its sleek locale. Michelin inspectors said the technique and level of cooking made the restaurant worthy of a Bib Gourmand designation.

Da Xi Sichuan, which opened at the New World Mall in 2017, also received the award this year, with Michelin noting that the restaurant offers “a different perspective on Sichuan cooking with less emphasis on fiery heat.” Michelin also said its cooking “exhibits great degrees of care, restraint and focus.”

While not in the immediate Flushing area, Whitestone’s Legend of Taste, which opened almost three years ago, made the list for its “peerless” Sichuan dishes like smoked pork with garlic and crispy eggplant.

The three restaurants were also among 27 new additions to the 2019 Bib Gourmand list, which selected 129 restaurants for the award.

Other Flushing restaurants that made the cut include Hunan Cafe, Tong Sam Gyup Goo Yi, Hahm Ji Bach and Dumpling Galaxy.

The Queens neighborhood had the most restaurants represented on the list, with neighborhoods like Astoria and Elmhurst also boasting several winners this year.

The Bib Gourmand prize is awarded to restaurants where patrons can order two quality courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less, tax and tips not included.
