Xi’an Famous Foods’ Flushing Restaurant Temporarily Closed by Health Dept.

The Flushing location of Xi’an Famous Foods has been temporarily closed by the Health Department.

The restaurant, located at 41-10 Main Street, was shut down after a Nov. 1 inspection revealed several sanitary violations including three deemed “critical.”

DOH inspectors found evidence of hot food not held at the right temporary; food preparation areas contaminated by waste; and filth flies.

The company, according to its website, said the location is closed for repairs and will reopen on Nov. 7.

The authentic Chinese food chain has locations in Woodside, Greenpoint, and several other locations in Manhattan. Some of its signature dishes include Liang Pi “Cold Skin Noodles”, Spicy Cumin Lamb Burger, and Hand-Ripped noodles.

The following is the full list of sanitary violations with the first three labeled “critical”:

  • 1) Hot food item not held at or above 140° F.
  • 2) Food, food preparation area, food storage area, area used by employees or patrons contaminated by sewage or liquid waste.
  • 3) Filth flies or food/ refuse/ sewage-associated (FRSA) flies present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas. Filth flies include house flies, little house flies, blow flies, bottle flies and flesh flies. Food/ refuse/ sewage-associated files include fruit flies, drain flies, and Phorid flies.
  • 4) Facility not vermin proof. Harborage or conditions conducive to attracting vermin to the premises and /or allowing vermin to exist.
  • 5) Non-food contact surface improperly constructed. Unacceptable material used. Non-food contact surface or equipment improperly maintained and/or not properly sealed, raised, spaced or movable to allow accessibility for cleaning on all sides, above and underneath the unit.

Masked thieves steal thousands from senior woman in Murray Hill robbery: NYPD

Police from the 111th Precinct in Bayside are looking for two masked purse snatchers who targeted a 70-year-old woman on a residential street in Murray Hill and allegedly grabbed her pocketbook that contained thousands of dollars.

The grand larceny occurred just after 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, as the senior was walking near 45th Avenue and 196th Street, a block west of Francis Lewis Boulevard, just south of Northern Boulevard. The stranger approached her from behind and snatched the pocketbook from her hand and then fled the crime scene in a black Chevrolet traveling westbound toward Utopia Parkway. The woman was not injured during the encounter.

Long Islander gets 20 years in prison for ‘sadistic’ months-long crime spree in Queens: DA

A Long Island man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Wednesday in Queens Supreme Court after pleading guilty to kidnapping, robbery, and promoting prostitution for three separate incidents.

Gil Iphael, 25, of Copiague Street in Valley Stream, lured his victims to Queens locations for sex with the help of his co-defendant, then his victims were detained, assaulted, and robbed. In one instance, Iphael tried to cut off a man’s toe and threatened to mutilate his genitals.
