April 3, 2019 By Meghan Sackman

Police are searching for an alleged thief who pretended to have a weapon in order to escape from a security guard while shoplifting at a Flushing store a few weeks ago.

According to police, on March 14 around 1:20 a.m. the unidentified man tried to walk out of a Flushing Rite Aid, located at 144-29 Northern Blvd., with a bottle of detergent and a container of protein powder without paying.

A security guard confronted the thief when he tried to leave the store, according to police. The thief then pretended to have a firearm and threatened the security guard with physical violence.

The thief then took off in an unknown direction.

The 109th Precinct tweeted a photo of the alleged robber:

There were no injuries as a result of the incident and the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
