July 18, Staff Report
A Flushing mother was sentenced to up to 12 years in prison today for the death of her 13-month-old daughter and the assault of the girl’s twin brother last year.
30-year-old Tina Torabi of Aurburndale pleaded guilty in May to first-degree assault and second-degree manslaughter after her daughter, Elaina, was killed as a result of “fatal child abuse syndrome,” per the medical examiner.
Torabi received a sentence of four to 12 years for manslaughter and a concurrent eight and a half years for assault, followed by two and a half years of post-release supervision.
Elaina was taken to the hospital on October 3, 2018, after Torabi called 911 to get help for the unresponsive baby. However, she was pronounced dead at the hospital and an autopsy later revealed that she had already been dead for at least 24 hours.
Numerous injuries were also found on Elaina’s twin brother, including a visible bite mark. He and three other siblings were found to be living in dirty conditions that Acting District Attorney John Ryan called “a house of horrors.”
Torabi’s husband and father of the twins fled and ultimately committed suicide by jumping from a Manhattan hotel room when he was being chased by the police.
“The mother of these children had a responsibility—not just to provide food and clothing. She had an obligation to protect them from harm,” Ryan said. “Instead, the baby girl is dead as a result of profound physical abuse. The girl’s twin brother had a long list of ghastly injuries. The defendant will have a long time to dwell on her failures that led to her own child’s death and to the other baby’s extreme suffering. The sentence imposed by the Court today is more than warranted.”

But ban abortion, right?
12 years? The baby would only have been 13! She should get a sentence no less than life since she took 2 lives!
Only 12??? Really? She KILLED a baby! HER baby!!! And kicked the crap out of her other baby. Don’t forget the numerous other children living in squalor!
