Two International Asian Restaurants to Open in Flushing Next Year

Two popular international restaurants are coming to Flushing next year.

Ju Qi, a restaurant specializing in authentic Beijing cuisine, and Meet Fresh, a Taiwan-based dessert bar, will each open locations at Tangram, a mega development that is going up at 133-36 37th Ave.

Ju Qi has signed a 10-year lease for a 6,400-square-foot-space and Meet Fresh has signed a 10-year lease for a 2,000-square-foot space, both at the Tangram, the 1.2 million-square-foot development in Flushing that includes retail stores, a hotel, offices and condos.

Ju Qi’s Queens restaurant will be its first in the U.S., while Meet Fresh’s Queens spot will be its second New York City outpost. The restaurants will join Xiao Long Kan Hot Pot, an international hotpot chain that is also set to open in the Tangram next year.

Ju Qi has 20 locations across China and celebrates old Beijing-style cuisine. Its Flushing location will showcase the chain’s signature dishes such as a mashed potato dish shaped like the Beijing cultural symbol Lord Rabbit–as well as its famous Peking duck and Sanbuzhan, a hot egg pudding favored by the fourth emperor of the Qing dynasty.

“Ju Qi is writing the new chapter of Beijing’s rich culinary history and we are thrilled to continue that story with a new restaurant in Flushing,” said Rex Yang, General Manager of Ju Qi. “As our U.S. flagship, Ju Qi at Tangram brings a superior dining experience that will attract foodies from all over New York City and make them feel like they are in Beijing.”

Meet Fresh, meanwhile, will open its second New York location after its successful opening in Manhattan’s East Village. The dessert brand originally from Taiwan now has over 1,000 stores across Asia, New Zealand and Australia.

It’s known for its Instagrammable treats like taro balls, herbal grass jelly, mochi, mango shaved ice, boba tofu pudding, green tea with whipped cream and hot almond soup.

“Our first location in Manhattan’s East Village was a huge success, and it made perfect sense for us to expand into Flushing,” said Vicky Chen, Owner of Meet Fresh stores in New York. “Tangram is becoming the new social hub in Flushing, and we are excited to be a part of that.”

The Tangram development is scheduled to fully open in 2020 and will consist of two residential towers, retail space, office space, a 24,000-square-foot food hall and a sky lit atrium.

The development will also house a four-star Renaissance New York Flushing Hotel, a state-of-the-art 4DX movie theater from Regal Cinemas, and the neighborhood’s first beer garden upon completion.

Helen Lee, Executive Vice President of F&T Group, which is developing Tangram with SCG America, said she was excited to see Ju Qi and Meet Fresh sign leases at the Tangram.

“Flushing is the go-to destination for international culinary brands looking to make their mark in the U.S. and we are proud that they are flocking to Tangram to be a part of the exciting new culinary and lifestyle destination we are creating,” Lee said.
