A Flushing man was busted for transporting more than $36,000 worth of alcohol in his car–without a permit–in Massachusetts Saturday.
Jia Chen, 36, was driving with a load of booze in his black Chevrolet Suburban on Route 495 in Berlin on Nov. 9 when a state trooper pulled him over for dangerously changing lanes at 7:30 p.m., Massachusetts state police said.
The trooper opened the car doors and found boxes of alcohol piled up the the roof of the Suburban. Dozens of boxes of Jack Daniels, Jameson, Bacardi, Ketel One and more filled the whole back of the car.
It’s illegal to transport more than three gallons of liquor without a permit in the state. Chen had no such permit and his vehicle’s floor was altered and reinforced to hold heavy loads, cops said.
Those transporting large amounts of alcohol often buy the booze in states with low liquor taxes and illegally resell it without licenses or permits in other states, the police added.
Chen was arrested and charged with unlawful transport of liquor and two traffic violations. His bail was set at $240 and the liquor was confiscated, the troopers said.

MA is cheaper and no sales tax, he was bringing it back here
Love buying booze in Costco near Boston – great price, good selection, and NO TAX!
Why can’t we have Costco alcohol in Queens ?!
Costco has a location in Long Island City
There’s also Total Wine in Long island as well. Unfortunately, we won’t get one in Queens.
If he wasn’t such a bad driver he probably wouldn’t have been caught.
Three gallon limit? all nanny states that try and tell people what they can and cannot do.
Given the price of alcohol these days, this looks about what you’d need at a really fun holiday party.
Well we know what they’ll be drinking at the Trooper Christmas party
