Citi Field, home to the Mets, will be converted into a mega COVID-19 vaccination site later this month with the capacity to administer the shot to thousands of people each day.

The Queens ballfield site will be open 24/7 beginning the week of Jan. 25, Mayor Bill de Blasio and the new Mets owner Steve Cohen announced Tuesday.

NYC public hospital staffers aim to vaccinate 5,000 to 7,000 New Yorkers at the stadium each day.

“It’s such a welcome moment for the people of this city, particularly for the people of Queens,” de Blasio said. “We’re going to have a 24/7 mega vaccination site at Citi field… This is going to help so many people get vaccinated.”

Another Queens 24/7 COVID-19 vaccination site will open at the NYC Health Department Clinic, located at 34-33 Junction Blvd in Corona, on Saturday.

De Blasio also announced Tuesday that people who live at shelters– or work there– as well as public-facing grocery store workers are now eligible to receive the vaccine. The two groups are in addition to health care workers, first responders, nursing home residents and those 65 years and older.

Eligible New Yorkers must make an appointment in order to get the two doses of the coronavirus vaccine. The city has set up a webpage where New Yorkers can read about eligibility requirements, find a vaccination site near them and book appointments.
