A number of murals have gone up at The Shops at Skyview in honor of the Year of the Tiger.

The murals, which are centered around a Water Tiger, have transformed a 600 square foot space on the fourth-floor level of the Flushing shopping complex.

The artwork is spread across six walls, with each design being 10 feet by 10 feet. They include a water tiger as well as design themes such as the 7 train.

Two local artists, Simi Mahtani and Teresa Wozniak, came up with the designs and worked with the community on March 4 to paint them. Around 200 people helped them paint over the course of the day.

The Shops at Skyview also partnered with the Queens Art Education Center, which brought 30 students from the center to assist Mahtani and Wozniak in painting the final mural.

Mahtani is a seasoned art director and designer with over 10 years of experience based in Brooklyn. Her work focuses on art-forward experiential, branding and identity solutions and retail activations for brands.

Meanwhile, Wozniak is a New York-based multidisciplinary designer and artist with 10 years of creative experience spanning branding, art direction, illustration, typography, advertising, industrial and site-specific design

“In our mural panels, a tiger enjoys the best of Flushing,” Wozniak said. “The color inspiration around this artwork is based on the lucky colors for 2022: cerulean blue, fiery red and imperial yellow. With cultural nods to local landmarks, delicious food, popular sports and even commuting, this tiger has a roaring time showing his true stripes.”
