A Flushing man was killed after falling off his e-bike in College Point last month, and a preliminary investigation determined he was not wearing a helmet.

Police from the 109th Precinct in Flushing responded to a 911 call regarding an injured man near the intersection of College Point Boulevard and 30th Avenue just after 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

They discovered Goubin Liu, 62, of Beech Avenue, unconscious and unresponsive with a head injury. EMS responded and rushed Liu to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Queens, where he succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on Jan. 20, police said.

A preliminary investigation by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad determined that Liu was riding the e-bike near the Con Edison – College Point Yard at 30th Avenue and College Point Boulevard when he lost control and fell from the e-bike, striking his head on the pavement, police said.

There were no other vehicles involved in the incident and the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad continues to investigate.
