Jan. 17, 2024 By Ethan Marshall The amount of reported cases of robberies and felony assaults across Queens have each risen over the last month compared to the same period of time a year ago, according to the latest crime stats released by the NYPD Monday. During the 28-day period from Dec. 18 to Jan. 14, reported robberies have increased 51.3% in northern Queens, from 117 cases the previous year to 177 this year. Jan. 16, 2024 By Rachel Butler Approximately 35 Flushing residents attended the NYPD 109th Precinct Community Council meeting at Bowne Street Community Church on Jan. 11 where they were introduced to a new commanding officer who addressed an uptick in robberies and auto thefts. The NYPD has appointed Deputy Inspector Kevin Coleman to take over the precinct who– prior to the move– was the commanding officer of the 104th Precinct that covers the Queens neighborhoods of Ridgewood, Maspeth, Middle Village and Glendale.
