An elderly couple is dead after a fire ripped through an apartment in Flushing Wednesday morning (Citizen)

Two senior citizens are dead after a fire ripped through their apartment in Flushing early Wednesday morning.

The victims, a couple consisting of an 81-year-old man and a 79-year-old woman, were killed during the blaze, when the fire engulfed their 71-02 162nd St. apartment building at around 4:30 a.m., according to police.

Video footage posted online shows the fire tearing through the top floor of the four-story building, with heavy smoke billowing high up into the air.

Firefighters responded to the inferno and got the blaze under control at around 5:20 a.m., the FDNY said.

The FDNY discovered the couple unconscious and unresponsive after extinguishing the flames. The pair were pronounced dead at the scene.

Another unidentified victim suffered minor injuries during the blaze, the FDNY said.

The FDNY has yet to determine the cause of the fire.
