The Flushing Business Improvement District is launching its first ever restaurant week on Monday.

The weeklong event, which goes from May 23 through May 31, aims to showcase 15 restaurants in Downtown Flushing.

The restaurants will offer prix-fixe lunch and early dinner specials starting at $20. The establishments participating will serve a variety of Asian cuisines, such as Japanese sushi, Malaysian food, Spicy Sichuan dishes, North China BBQ, Taiwanese food and more.

“We are hosting Flushing Restaurant Week because we want everyone to know about the unique dining experience that can be had in Downtown Flushing,” said Diansong Yu, the executive director of the Flushing BID. “We want people to try the hotpots, the barbeque and all the restaurant styles.”

In recent years, the BID has held a “Flushing Food Festival” at the Sheraton LaGuardia Hotel which is essentially a sampling event where participants get to taste items from an array of restaurants over a 2 1/2-hour period.

Yu says the festival has been popular but a restaurant week aims to lure foodies to the establishments themselves.

The public can claim a free $5 voucher that can be used at any one of the participating restaurants from the Flushing BID’s info booth. The booth will be open in front of the Flushing library between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday.

The participating restaurants and their menus can be found at the Flushing BID website.
