Queens leaders and NYC Parks Department officials celebrated the opening of a new playground and adult exercise station in Glen Oaks Oval in a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday.

The officials marked the completion of the $1.5 million upgrades to the park during the ceremony. The upgrades were finished in April, about five months ahead of schedule.

The park’s existing playground has been completely upgraded with new play structures and colored safety surfacing. A basketball court has been converted into an adult fitness area — with new equipment — at the community’s request.

The fitness area also includes painted agility games that visitors can add into their workout routines.

Construction began in September 2020 and was completed in April 2021 — five months ahead of its expected completion date, according to the parks department.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the upgraded playground and brand new adult exercise station in Glen Oaks Oval, which was returned to the community five months ahead of schedule,” NYC Parks Commissioner Gabrielle Fialkoff said. “Thanks to $1.5 million allocated by the Borough President’s office, today this park has something for everyone — from young children to active seniors — to enjoy.”

The renovations were funded by the Queens borough president’s office. Richards joined Fialkoff at the ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday along with Assembly Member David Weprin, Council Member Barry Grodenchik and Community Board 13 District Manager Mark McMillan.

“Our parks are the anchors of our neighborhoods, and the families of Glen Oaks deserve nothing less than a first-class playground to call their own,” Queens Borough President Donovan Richards said. “From new children’s equipment to an adult fitness area, there is something for residents of all ages at the Glen Oaks Oval.”

In addition to the playground and adult fitness area, Glen Oaks Oval also features two turf baseball fields.
