A Queens man who threatened to shoot a motorist in Bayside over a parking spot has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Jaquan Adams, 29, of Cambria Heights, was sentenced Monday after being convicted in September on gun-related charges for threatening a motorist just before midnight on May 26, 2019 in front of 39-20 Bell Boulevard.

“An argument over nothing more than a parking spot escalated into a life-or-death confrontation because the defendant chose to resolve the dispute with an illegal handgun,” said Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz. “He has now been held to fully account for his criminal actions.”

According to the charges, Adams approached the victim who was sitting inside a parked vehicle and got into an argument with him. During the argument, he displayed a firearm and threatened to shoot the victim if he did not move his car from that particular parking spot.

The victim vacated the space and Adams pulled his Honda Civic into the spot. The victim called 911 to report the incident and pointed the responding police officers to Adams’ vehicle. Adams was not there.

The police then executed a search warrant and found an unlicensed .38 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver loaded with six rounds in his car.

Adams was arrested on unrelated charges on June 12, 2019, and later confessed to possessing the firearm and arguing with the victim over the parking spot.

The case, however, went to trial and he was convicted on Sept. 20 of three counts of criminal possession of a weapon and menacing in the second degree.

Adams was also sentenced Monday to 5 years post release supervision.
