Young Woman Killed by 16-Year-Old in Pickup Truck in Jackson Heights Thursday

A 19-year-old woman was killed when she was struck by a teenage driver while walking in front of an auto-shop in Jackson Heights Thursday evening.

Sara Perez, of East Elmhurst, was fatally struck on the sidewalk by a 16-year-old male in a Ford F-150 pickup truck at around 4:50 p.m. when the driver entered into the Northern Lube and Tire Shop at 106-15 Northern Blvd.

According to reports, Perez was pinned between the front bumper of the pickup truck and a wooden wall.

EMS responded to the scene and discovered Perez unconscious and unresponsive with trauma to the head. She was transported to NYC Health & Hospitals/Elmhurst, where she was pronounced deceased.

The 16-year-old driver remained at the scene.

There have been no arrests at this time. The case remains ongoing and is being investigated by NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad.

College Point man charged with arson, attempted murder for allegedly starting 2-alarm house fire: NYPD

One of the five civilians rescued by the FDNY from a 2-alarm house fire in College Point on Friday morning was arrested later in the day for allegedly starting the blaze in his first-floor apartment.

Jonathan Mejia, 33, was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on Tuesday, Sept. 16 on a complaint charging him with arson in the first degree, four counts of attempted murder in the second degree and other related charges.
